Values Are the Milestones of Student Life: Mr.Vivek Alva Moodbidri: Student life is not merely a period for securing marks, earning degrees, or preparing for employment. It is a phase for developing discipline, a spirit of service, leadership, humanity, and a responsible approach to life, said Vivek Alva. Speaking at the inauguration of the NCC, NSS, Red Cross, Rovers and Rangers, Literary Association, and Eco Club at Excellent PU College, he said that such organizations play a vital role in fostering leadership qualities, a spirit of service, social responsibility, love for nature, creativity, and human values among students. “Obedience towards those above you, gracious equality towards those below you, and friendship with your equals—let these be the milestones of your life. Obedience does not mean cowardice; gracious equality does not mean indiscipline; friendship does not mean merely having fun at parties. Living with mutual respect, love, and understanding is the true ideal of life,” he advised the students. He said that devotion and respect for teachers should become a guiding force in students’ lives. Parents and teachers should not merely be regarded as guides but also as role models. Students should develop an attitude of understanding their experiences and sacrifices and incorporating the values they impart into their own lives. A life lived with a sense of responsibility forms the foundation of a secure and fulfilling life. Rather than merely seeking a great life, students should strive for a meaningful life. Life acquires true significance only when it becomes a source of good for others, Vivek Alva said. Cleanliness should not remain merely a campaign but should become a way of life. Patience should become a mantra for living. Students should not lose heart when faced with difficulties but should learn from failures and move forward. He urged them to develop the attitude that “Failure is not death; the real failure is not getting back up after a defeat.” He expressed the hope that NCC would become a platform for developing discipline, NSS for cultivating a spirit of service, Red Cross for promoting humanity, Rovers and Rangers for fostering leadership and adventure, the Literary Association for encouraging thought and creativity, and the Eco Club for creating environmental awareness. He wished that the values developed through these organizations would become guiding lights that illuminate the students’ future. Yuvraj Jain, President of the institution, who presided over the programme, said, “The units being inaugurated today will provide a platform for the new possibilities within our students. Reading books within the four walls of a classroom and scoring marks in examinations is only one part of education. But the education that shapes a human being begins outside the classroom. “Marks may measure your ability, but they cannot measure your character. Certificates may record your achievements, but they cannot determine your worth. “That is why platforms such as NCC, NSS, Red Cross, Rovers and Rangers, the Literary Association, and the Eco Club are essential in an educational institution. “Therefore, let NCC teach us discipline. Let NSS teach us service. Let Red Cross cultivate humanity within us. Let Rovers and Rangers impart courage and leadership. Let the Literary Association inspire thought and sensitivity. Let the Eco Club remind us once again of our relationship with nature,” he said. Excellent Education Institution Secretary Rashmitha Jain was present at the programme. The conveners of the various units—Lieutenant Mahendra Jain, Prashanth Shetty, Pradeep K.P., Sandhya Kumari, Dr. Vadiraja Kalluraya, Ashok Shetty, and Ashoka N.—as well as office-bearers of the various units were also present.
